CI/CD Workshop for a Digitalisation Team

The Challenge

A consultancy guiding small and mid-sized companies through digitalisation faces a problem of its own: client projects go well on substance, but every deployment is manual. On a single project that goes unnoticed. Across a portfolio of many small client solutions it adds up - and ties up exactly the capacity that belongs in advisory work.

The brief was enablement, not delivery: the team had to be able to work independently afterwards.

Our Approach

Assessment before the workshop. We looked at the actual development and deployment workflows rather than running a generic session. What works for a team depends heavily on how it works today.

A reference pipeline instead of slides. The core of the workshop was a working pipeline built on a real project - build, test, deployment, environment separation. Participants did not watch; they built alongside.

A blueprint for the portfolio. The pipeline was deliberately cut so it transfers to further client projects. Across many small projects the leverage lies not in one perfect solution but in a pattern that repeats.

Test automation and environment separation. Two topics regularly skipped in small projects and most expensive later. Both were a fixed part of the reference implementation, not an outlook at the end.

The Results

The team continues to work with a pipeline of its own and has since transferred it to further projects. The manual share of deployment has dropped considerably.

The real effect is that a new client project no longer starts from zero. The blueprint removes a decision that would otherwise be made afresh in every project.
